East Hawaii 4-H Federation members recently had their 4-H Leaders’ Recognition Luncheon at the Komohana Research Extension Center.

During this luncheon, the 4-H Super Stars (Maya Atwal, Samantha Chung, Cassidy Denault, Kiryn Komata, Megan Nakamoto and leaders Jill Atwal and Anne Chung) in conjunction with the Hawaii Island United Way, coordinated a public collection drive to support those affected by Hurricane Iselle.

Janice Beultmann of Hawaii Island United Way connected the 4-H members with the Hawaii Food Basket and Care Resource to accept donations and distribute goods to those in need.

In addition, Beultmann assisted the 4-H members in getting volunteers from the community to assist with collection and transportation of the donated items.

As a result of this effort, the 4-H members donated 2,175 pounds of food to the Hawaii Food Basket and two truckloads of non-food items to Care Resource Hawaii.

The East Hawaii 4-H Federation and the Super Stars Club appreciate all of the efforts of volunteers Katrice Gleason, Jenn Kurohara, Trudy Sleightholm, and Erin Wagner; Janice Beultmann from HIUW, and Claudia Wilcox-Boucher from Hawaii Food Basket, for helping to make the project a big success.
